Lake Como, Italy – The UIM E1 World Championship, the world's first all-electric race boat championship, has announced a thrilling addition to its 2024 race calendar.
On August 23-24, the stunning waters of Lake Como will host the E1 Lake Como Grand Prix, marking a significant milestone in the Championship's debut season. The prestigious event will occur at the world-renowned Renaissance-style Villa d'Este, known for its luxury and elegance.
A Playground for the Rich and Famous
E1 has quickly established itself as a premier event attracting celebrities and elite athletes. The Championship's roster of team owners includes global stars from the realms of sport, entertainment, and business, such as Will Smith, Rafael Nadal, and Tom Brady.
Lake Como joins iconic locations like Monaco, Venice, and Puerto Banús as host cities, solidifying E1's reputation as a glamorous and high-profile racing series.
Commitment to Sustainability
Beyond the excitement of the race, the E1 Championship is dedicated to promoting sustainability through its flagship initiative, the Blue Impact Programme.
This program sees E1 collaborating with host cities, partners, NGOs, and scientists to address coastal habitat issues. The initiative includes knowledge transfer meetings, panels, and workshops to foster environmental awareness and develop clean marine technologies.
Villa d'Este will be crucial in this sustainability effort, providing education and conference opportunities during the race weekend. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to protecting blue habitats and promoting sustainable practices.
Statements from Key Figures
Rodi Basso, CEO and Co-founder of E1 expressed his excitement about the Lake Como event, stating, "A destination that’s synonymous with luxury and elegance, Lake Como and the iconic Villa d’Este are the perfect fit for E1. The Lake provides ideal racing conditions that will amplify the jeopardy and competitiveness that has quickly become a hallmark of the Championship. Together with Villa d’Este, we will work to deliver a memorable and world-class race weekend experience unlike any other.”
Davide Bertilaccio, CEO of Villa d'Este, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the historic connection between Villa d'Este and motorsports. "The connection of Villa d’Este with the world of racing and motorsports goes back a long way, and our commitment to supporting sporting events in our region is part of our DNA. E1 is redefining watersports, so it’s an honour to be part of this journey. The waters of Como form an essential element of the Villa d’Este experience, so to bring such an innovative racing series to our shores is a major coup in delivering an invaluable experience for our guests. We also share with E1 the same values towards sustainability to protect blue habitats, especially Lake Como, through the development of clean technologies in marine mobility."
Race Calendar Update
The E1 Lake Como GP will replace the previously scheduled Rotterdam event on the 2024 race calendar. As the championship heads to Monaco for its next race in July, Team Miami, powered by Magnus and owned by Grammy-award-winning musician Marc Anthony, currently leads the general classification.
Adding Lake Como to the E1 calendar promises to deliver an exhilarating and unforgettable experience, combining the thrill of high-speed electric racing with the breathtaking beauty and luxury of one of Italy's most iconic locations.
